Storage Bermondsey Modern Slavery Statement
This Modern Slavery Statement sets out the steps taken by Storage Bermondsey to prevent modern slavery, human trafficking, forced labour and exploitation within our operations and supply chains. We are committed to conducting business ethically, transparently and with respect for human rights, and we expect the same standards from all parties we work with.
Our Zero-Tolerance Approach
Storage Bermondsey has a strict zero-tolerance policy to modern slavery in all its forms. This applies to our employees, agency workers, contractors, suppliers and business partners. We do not tolerate any practice that involves coercion, servitude, child labour, deceptive recruitment, retention of identity documents, or withholding of wages as a means of control.
We are committed to complying with all relevant legislation and to continuously improving our practices to identify and mitigate the risk of modern slavery. Contracts with suppliers and service providers are expected to reflect our zero-tolerance stance and our requirement that all work is undertaken voluntarily and on fair terms.
Our Operations and Supply Chain
Our core activities include the provision of storage facilities and related services. While we consider the overall risk of modern slavery in our direct operations to be low, we recognise that risks can exist in wider supply chains, particularly in relation to facilities management, cleaning, security, construction, maintenance, equipment, uniforms and other goods and services that support our business.
We aim to work with reputable suppliers that share our values and can demonstrate robust employment and ethical sourcing practices. We expect our suppliers to uphold all applicable labour laws, including in respect of working hours, wages, health and safety, and freedom of movement.
Supplier Due Diligence and Audits
Before engaging new key suppliers, Storage Bermondsey carries out due diligence to assess potential risks of modern slavery. This may include reviewing their policies, codes of conduct, public statements, and where appropriate, obtaining written confirmations of compliance with anti-slavery requirements.
We reserve the right to conduct audits or require evidence from suppliers to confirm that they are meeting our standards. This can include site visits, document reviews and discussions with management regarding labour practices. Where issues are identified, we will require corrective action within an agreed timeframe.
If a supplier is unable or unwilling to address concerns, we may suspend or terminate the relationship. Our goal is to work collaboratively to improve conditions while maintaining a clear and enforceable boundary against any form of exploitation.
Policies, Training and Awareness
Our internal policies, including those concerning recruitment, equal opportunities, health and safety and whistleblowing, support our efforts to prevent modern slavery. Recruitment is conducted using reputable agencies or direct advertising, and we do not charge workers recruitment fees or allow practices that restrict a person’s freedom of movement or employment.
We are working to increase awareness among our employees and managers about the signs of modern slavery and the actions to take if concerns arise. Training and guidance will be periodically refreshed to ensure ongoing awareness and vigilance.
Reporting Channels and Protection
Storage Bermondsey encourages anyone who suspects modern slavery or unethical labour practices in our operations or supply chain to raise concerns without fear of retaliation. Concerns can be reported to management or through internal reporting routes made available to staff and relevant third parties.
We will investigate any allegation of modern slavery promptly and confidentially, to the extent possible. Where appropriate, we will cooperate with law enforcement or relevant authorities. We do not tolerate victimisation of any person who raises concerns in good faith.
Monitoring, Review and Continuous Improvement
We are committed to regularly reviewing the effectiveness of our measures to prevent modern slavery. This includes monitoring our supplier relationships, reviewing risk assessments, and reflecting on any incidents, investigations or industry developments that highlight new or emerging risks.
This Modern Slavery Statement is reviewed annually by Storage Bermondsey’s leadership to ensure it remains accurate and effective. Where improvements are identified, we will update our processes and expectations accordingly, with the aim of strengthening protections for workers and promoting ethical practices across our operations and supply chain.
This statement has been approved by the leadership of Storage Bermondsey and represents our ongoing commitment to combating modern slavery and protecting human rights in all aspects of our business.
